The Things That Turn Me

By Bonnie Gray • November 25, 2009 • 12 Comments

This Thanksgiving, I sing a psalm of praise.
I sing it loudly. I sing it proudly.
And long to gather next to you —

To slice the turkey, to taste the cheer.
You are God’s gift.  Between the words, the pause, you are here.

Happy Thanksgiving, I am thinking of you.

Our walk of faith is bright and glorious.  No matter what we fear.

Today, I wrote a psalm of praise to share — The things that turn me… The things that turn me.

The Things That Turn Me

Out of my winter, I see you standing
You know my story
You hear my forgotten song

My heart has been a whisper
Yet You carry me along —

You haven’t forgotten my weakness
That is why Your love is strong
It faces into my ugliness
Covering it with the dawn

A new day is promised
A new way awaits —

The things that turn me
The lacking, the striving, the wishing, the undone
Are the nothings that bring me back

The things that turn me
Under, over, sideways, around
Are the very things you hide underneath the unexpected

A surprise, a smile, a laugh, a relief
You amaze me
The way you love me

Through the things that turn me.

O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8

Happy Thanksgiving, my faith friends. You are remembered.

That was really awesome! I see your heart in that psalm. I love the way He loves us! Right where we are, who we are. He come to meet us at our need and take the once ugly and transform it into the beautiful. Of course, I’m speaking from personal experience here.

Happy Thanksgiving to you & yours!
