“In the morning, you hear my voice.
In the morning, I lift my prayers to you
and I wait expectantly for you.” Psalm 5:3
Dear Friends,
I’ve decided to write you a letter today.
So, last week, as I was gathering my courage to work on a new project, I went on my daily walk.
(Things are still shaping up, but I can’t wait to share the news with you — since you were the ones who made this project possible.)
I’m gonna have to take a break from work I’m currently doing, in order to start this new endeavor. And well, I was afraid to give up some everyday commitments and carve out time for this new change because what if what I come up doesn’t make up for the time I invested?
Maybe you feel these same questions and dilemma, as you think about the new changes or direction God may be prompting you to make.
Is risk worth making, to follow God into the unknown of new?
Maybe you too, like me, are afraid to commit time, money or resources to a choice — because you keep waiting for some confirmation that the return on investment will be worth it?
How do we know? What if we lose out on something known — because we make space for something uncertain?
Well, that was the question my heart last week, as I took a walk on a trail one morning. Being out in nature is my spiritual whitespace time. I unplug from my daily life and be near beautiful things.
Walking the trail is my prayer time.
As I took my walk, I was inspired something God put on my heart.
So, I took my iphone out and recorded a 90 sec devotional video for you. Click the video below and enjoy a Mocha For Your Soul Devotional:
Here is the text, if you prefer to read, rather than watch:
I’m here at the beginning of my trail – my walk this morning.
I just felt so refreshed, as I stepped onto the trail and looked at the big, tall blue skies. In the quiet, I heard the birds singing. And even though I wasn’t planning to shoot the video, I had to share this glorious morning with you.
As I was with my thoughts, I felt God saying,
“Even though my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts, I still hear you.
I still call you to come and speak with me.
To share your heart and everything on your mind.”
inspired by Isaiah 55:9
It’s almost as if God is saying to me. “Yes, even though I can’t explain everything quite to you in a way I would want to right now. I want you to know the most important thing is that I hear you.”
In Psalm 5:3, David wakes up and he says,
“In the morning, you hear my voice.
In the morning, I lift my prayers to you and I wait expectantly for you.”
So, I just want to encourage you, that whatever thoughts are with you now, that God does understand.
Eventhough God can’t quite explain everything to us, he is with us. Remember that you’re loved, you’re cherished — and you’re heard.
I hope you have a wonderful day, and I can’t wait to see you next time.
So, I guess the answer God game me is this: we won’t know the outcome of our investment and choices — before we make them.
But we can know it is worth it, if we place our value on the right thing.
I guess if we define the right thing as success, acceptance and belonging, then I think I’d keep doing the same thing. Because well, everyone always has a different view of what is successful or acceptable.
But, if we define worth as being loved, walking by faith and feeling awakened and alive with Jesus — then, friends, we need to step out with Jesus and say to ourselves what God whispers to us today:
You are worth the risk.
Because I hear you.
Becoming real.
Becoming beloved is worth it.
If we are being faithful to express who God is calling us to become, then it’s worth it. Faith in Jesus is always worth whatever comes.
“In the morning, you hear my voice.
In the morning, I lift my prayers to you
and I wait expectantly for you.” Ps. 5:3
Listen to the words God’s whispering in your heart so quietly.
Look at the words He’s placing into your hands today.
Draw near o the One who calls you His.
Then, simply do, follow him and be wherever he leads you today.

Hi Bonnie,
I love the message you shared with us! Because that is where most of us are — not completely sure of the outcome or our direction but we are brave enough to trust God to just show us how to take the next step! I love your words of taking what God is placing in our hands today — every week I think I might not write a blog post but I feel God asking me to just take an idea or a few words and he multiplies into a blog post that is more about me experiencing him, and that feeds my soul! And we are so excited to hear about your new project!
hi valerie, you and i are soul sisters. we meet with God between pen and paper / keyboard and keystrokes. EXPERIENCING him. before we touch any words, nothing. then that idea becomes a seed that becomes a field of blossoms — in your heart!! love your writing. it’s YOU. so love enjoying #OneWordCoffee together. love your word – experiencing.
Love this. I think one thing that I find most inviting about your blog is your humility. I can really see you willing to let God use you as a vessel for His word. Your blog is such a gentle, welcoming place!
hi joellen, i can’t tell you how happy that makes me. i so cherish you, as you take time to stop and visit. this #OneWordCoffee is our quiet little space – to welcome each other – with Jesus here in our hearts and stories. thank you for welcoming ME into your day. (hugs)
Bonnie,
Your words always hit me right where I am at. Right now there are many uncertain things in my life. Things that I feel the Lord so silent on and yet today you have reminded me that He is there. He hears my questions. He hears my fears. And that He has not left.
Thank you for pouring out into so many of us who value your gift of words.
hi de burke, God is silently placing his hand in yours, his heart holding your words, your prayers and drawing you to him with his embrace while things wait and unfold. thank you for letting me know the words I share touch yours. i DO love words. i sift through my days to find something shiny from God that has touched my heart to share with you — And it makes me happy to enjoy #OneWordCOffee together and see that it prompt words in you to share with me here. thnk you for taking time to share and visit. (hugs)
Hi Bonnie, this is just the second post of yours I’ve read..and I have to say this: each of your posts connects to a situation directly in my life and I thank and praise God for directing me to your blog.. I love the way our Lord uses us even when we do not know each other.. as we are all in the body of Christ. What a mighty God we serve! He guides us to be there for each other. He speaks so much to me through your blog. God bless the work of your hands and whatever new project you plan to launch, God be with u. In Christ.
hi smithu grace – what a lovely name you have!! i’m so glad that you are here – welcome! everything you share really encourages my heart – and i hear God in you and your journey speaking to me! thank you for the sweet kinship and good wishes as i step into this new project. i can’t wait to share the journey with you. thnx for taking time to visit and enjoy #OneWordCoffee together. may God’s sweet presence touch you and refresh you today, every hour, walking with you hand in hand!
As I was reflecting on your words, I heard God say to me that I still choose to do too many things on my own, in my own strength. Growing up, I had to deal with really difficult things on my own. I learned that no one could be trusted. I’ve come a long way over the years. Yet there are still too many times I choose to handle things on my own, instead of turning to God and sharing with him. I keep too much inside me. It ends up hurting me instead. Oh to have the courage to be truly honest with God as I walk in the day to day of my life.
I’m so grateful that God longs to hear our voices, even when we don’t think we have anything important to say. What a good, good Father!
“Becoming beloved is worth it”…..worth the risk. I need to take that step. If God is holding my hand, there is nothing to fear. Sounds easy but it’s not. Thank you Bonnie for sharing so much of yourself.

Becoming beloved is worth the risk…. speaks volumes and comfort at the same time as terrifying due to the risk. Thank you friend.
Didn’t get to read your love letter until now ,hope its not too late to share. My heart is stuck in old patterns trying to get free. I failed Jesus today and pray for His forgiveness. I want so much to experience Him again like I did when I was new. What happens to us as we grow up in faith? Ifeel like i am going nowhere. I do pray that you would share more of your story by writing anothet book. Your talent cannot be hidden, its time to create more words in your spiritual whitespace. Thankyou Bonnie and friends
Thank you for taking that moment and recording what God was speaking to you. It refreshed me! I took a walk this evening, feeling a bit overwhelmed and frustrated, and just suddenly lifted me and gave me similar words as He did you. That He hears and I can come to Him anytime to be lifted up even in the troubling circumstances. And then an idea started to flow through my mind of a next step, something He may be calling me to share so my story can encourage another. I shall just need to stay tuned to His way and get out of my own!
I love the way that unspoken prayers become precious to the heart of the Father as we release them and the way that He relates back to us the value and worth of the time we take to come to Him. He is always waiting and it is funny to think of our time as risky investments when it is always inclusive of Him being a part of it. Yet, His grace is so abundant for us, to meet us when we need to be encouraged and to lead us when we are unsure. Being outside in nature is spiritual whitespace for me to. There is just something so uplifting.
I was blessed by your words, today. Thank you!
Dawn
So afraid to make the decision but I want to feel ALIVE!
I enjoyed your video Bonnie and felt so uplifted by your spirit. What joy!
The Lord brought me to Psalms 40:17 this morning and it seems similar:
“I am poor and weak, yet the Lord is thinking about me right now!…”
Be blessed this weekend dear Bonnie and know you are in my prayers. I am excited and thankful to be your kindred.
thanks for this, miss barista on a walk (going on one shortly as soon as I get dressed and Claire arrives!) – i love it that God hears me – even hears the prayers I don’t even know I’m praying – wow – another part of His God-ness and His loving me. I’m so distractible that (squirrel!!!) I forget what thought He’s leading me to pray next w/in seconds. So I’ll walk and talk and ask Claire questions and I think we’ll turn over everthing to Him by the time we reach the windy crest and down again. xx, s.
Praise God he understands our every thought–including those that swirl around doubts. How many of us want to spend our time and effort in the ways God individually and uniquely preordained for each of us, but aren’t sure just what those ways are? Yet God’s purpose for our lives, even for just this one day, requires movement–a step of faith. If we don’t take that first step, we’ll never get anywhere. And if our good intentions somehow lead us astray, our God is big enough to stop us! That last line of yours reads like a beautiful benediction, Bonnie: “Do, follow him and be wherever he leads you today.” Thank you for your inspiration!
